Clayton H. Smith, 93, of Kittanning, died peacefully on May 19, 2017.

He was born March 29, 1924 in Manor Township, a son of the late Rex and Rhoda (King) Smith.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the Army, and received a Purple Heart. He was retired as a steelworker from Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation.

Mr. Smith enjoyed gardening and hunting.

Surviving are his children, William (Sheila) Smith of Ford City, Tonya (Thomas) Hyman of Summerville, SC, Michael (Deborah) Smith of Kittanning, and Candice (Dennis) Bittinger of Rural Valley; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, James (Helen) Smith of Ford City; and two sisters, Mary Leppado of Ford City and Doris Rudosky of Ford City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna (Walthour) Smith; three brothers, Wade, Carl, and Rex Smith.

Visitation and services were held privately. Interment was in McVille Union Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home, Ford City.
