David Lee Cousins, Jr., 93, of North Buffalo Township, died Monday, March 19, 2018, in his home.
Born April 23, 1924, in North Buffalo Township, he was a son of the late David Lee Cousins, Sr., and Ella (Schrecengost) Cousins.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in World War II as an anti-aircraft "POM-POM" gunner aboard the USS Wisconsin (BB-64). Mr. Cousins was a member of North Buffalo Grace Brethren Church. He was a retired coal miner, having worked for Cadogan Coal Mine, Union Carbide, and Penn Allegheny Coal Company. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to camp.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bernest Pauline Cousins; two sons, David (Sharyl) Cousins and Richard (Cathy) Cousins, both of North Buffalo Township; two daughters, Carol Schaeffer and Gaye (Tim) Porter, both of North Buffalo Township; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ella Mae Smith; his brothers, Robert, Franklin Russell, Brady, and Ernest Cousins; and an infant brother, Jimmy Harold Cousins, and a grandson, Robert Cousins.
Friends will be welcomed at the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City, on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Additional visitation will be held at North Buffalo Grace Brethren Church, on Thursday, from 10 a.m., until the time of services at 11 a.m., with Pastor Jim Rose officiating.
