Evelyn Johanna (Shiring) Edwards

Evelyn Johanna (Shiring) Edwards, 81, of Ford City, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 29, 2018.

Born September 11, 1936, in Kittanning, she was a daughter of the late Boyd and Johanna (Cross) Shiring.

She was a 1954 graduate of Ford City High School, and worked as an operator at Kittanning Telephone Company. 

A devoted Catholic, Evelyn was a member of Christ, Prince of Peace Parish, Ford City.  She served as a judge of elections for many years, and was a member and treasurer of the Ford City Fire Department Auxiliary. 

She enjoyed camping, traveling, watching her grandchildren play sports, and spending winters in Florida.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by three daughters, Karen Sue (Rob) Young of Rural Valley, Beth (Brad) Mitchell of Kittanning, and Cheryl Shirley of Ravenna, OH; five grandchildren, Charlie (Jamie) Young, Jessica (Jeff) Flack, Emily Mitchell, Luke Mitchell, and Daniel Shirley; two great-grandchildren, Gracie Flack and Makenzie Young; two brothers, James and Joseph Shiring, both of Ford City; and a sister, Mary Shaner of Leechburg. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George Kenneth Edwards, who died December 15, 2010; an infant son, Michael; three brothers, Vincent, Edward, and Jack Shiring; a sister, Kathryn Perpich; and her extended family from South Carolina, Walter Smith and Leona Smith Ballington.

Friends will be welcomed from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, in the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City.  Prayers of transfer will be offered at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., at Christ, Prince of Peace Church, with Father Ricky Cortez as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.  To send an online condolence, please visit www.welchfh.com.
