Margaret Louise "Mickey" Charley, 91, of Ford City, died Monday, February 26, 2018, at Logan Place, Lower Burrell.
Born August 20, 1926, in Tarentum, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Marie Margaret (Wetzel) Neely.
She was a graduate of both Tarentum High School and Clarion State Teachers College. Her teaching career began in a one-room schoolhouse in Creekside. She then taught at Har-Brack High School, and subsequently retired from Armstrong School District, after many of years of teaching 7th grade English at Kittanning Jr. High.
Mrs. Charley was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Kittanning.
She enjoyed playing with her card club, golfing, and antiquing, and had quite a passion for reading and writing. She was a strong patron of the public libraries in both Ford City and Kittanning, and was a member of the Kittanning Book Club, for which she wrote many book reviews. Mickey was also an avid sports fan, especially fond of the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates.
She is survived by three sons, David (Linda) Charley of Kittanning, Doug (Shirley) Charley of Afton, VA, and Don (Caroline) Charley of Latrobe; her grandchildren, Craig Charley, Amy Charley Wright, and Sara Charley; and her great-grandchildren, Greta Charley and Bruno Wright.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Charley, in 1980; two sisters, Hazel Thompson and Dorothy Kramer; and two brothers, Eddie and Jim Neely.
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, in the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Kittanning, with Rev. Carl Johnson, officiating. Interment will follow in Ford City Cemetery. There will be additional visitation offered at the church one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kittanning Public Library, 280 N. Jefferson St., Kittanning, PA 16201.
