Shirley Jean Elwood, 78, of North Buffalo Township, died Sunday, August 4, 2019, at ACMH Hospital.
Born April 5, 1941, in Kittanning, she was a daughter of the late James Kenneth and Katherine (Petruzzi) Smith.
Shirley retired from Armstrong County Health Center, where she was employed as a nurse for over 30 years.
An avid sports fan, she loved the Steelers, especially "Big Ben", and also enjoyed watching her grandson play football for Robert Morris University. She liked doing puzzles, traveling, reading, boating on the Allegheny River, and going to the Outer Banks with her family.
Shirley is survived by her husband, John "Jack" Elwood; her children, John (Gerrianne) Elwood, Terri (Mark) Szymanski, and Robert (Marcy) Elwood; her grandchildren, Mark, Katie, Jayson, Carissa, and Jacob; and her great-grandchildren, Madalyn, Mark, Jaxon, Analise, and Dempsey.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Santelmo and Diane Baker, and a brother, James Smith.
At Mrs. Elwood's request, a viewing was held for her immediate family, and a private Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Lawrence Church in Cadogan.
