Cherie A. Johnson, 81, of Kittanning, died Thursday, June 8, 2017, at her residence.

She was born May 20, 1936 in Kittanning, daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel (Denny) Rupert.

Cherie was employed by HAVIN, where she was a nighttime manager. She enjoyed playing the lottery, being with her friends, cooking for her children, being with her many grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. She was a very independent women, and raised her children by herself. She was well-known for speaking her mind.

Surviving are her children, Candy Johnson of Vandergrift, Tina Johnson of Leechburg, Cherie Lee (Jeff) Jackson of Apollo, Mickey (Diana) Johnson of Manassus, VA, Shawn (Kelsey) Johnson of Washington, and Alan (Shirley) Johnson of Tyngsboro, MA.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Darrin Johnson; a sister, June Weight; and two brothers, Robert and Ernest Rupert.

Friends will be welcomed from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, in the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City, with services immediately following at 4 p.m., with Rev. Robert Shallenberger, officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HAVIN, P.O. Box 983, Kittanning, PA 16201.

Didn't know Mrs. Johnson, but know some of the family. Losing a Mother is like a hole is poked into your heart. Know that every day it will get a little easier in the healing of your loss. You have my sympathy!
