Russell L. Cook, 88, of Ford City, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 4, 1929. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Cook was a member of United Rockville Lutheran Church. He worked for Leech Lumber Co., Kittanning, was the manager of Kittanning Cemetery for 13 years, and retired from ARIN Intermediate Unit, Shelocta, in 1991. He enjoyed gardening and refinishing furniture, and was a very good carpenter. He loved his family very much, always helping them, doing all he could do.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley (Hartman) Cook; his children, David A. Cook (Glenda) of Shay, Keith Cook (Peggy) of Shelocta, Kimberly Stitt (Raymond) of Ford City, and Sheila Thall (John) of Apollo; six grandchildren, Nicole, Natalie, Justin, Theresa, Heather, and Tyce; and eight great-grandchildren, Alivia, Zoey, Xavier, Jace, Jaxon, Dylan, Ayla, and Tanner.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ira Cook; three sisters, Alberta Spencer, Helen Moran, and Isabell Iseman; and a son-in-law, Michael Petras.

At Mr. Cook's request, viewing and services will be held for his family privately. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Welch Funeral Home, Ford City.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your husband, dad, grandfather, and beloved friend to others who knew him, he will truly be missed and forever in your hearts, just like my mother and dad are, a day doesn't go by with them always in my thoughts and prayers which I miss everyday.
