Elizabeth A. "Betty" Thevenin, 73, of Ford City, died Saturday, June 2, 2018, in ACMH Hospital.  She was born December 17, 1944, in New Brunswick, NJ, a daughter of the late Joseph and Julia (Sliva) Cornell.  Betty was a member of Christ, Prince of Peace Parish, Ford City. She worked at the Divine Redeemer School for 16 years, where she taught art and physical education, coached cheerleading, and served as the custodian. She formerly worked at Eljer Plumbingware and also had a house cleaning business. Betty was the founder and director of the Ford City Jr. Drill Team, which operated for 34 years, and was known for her lemonade and french fry stand at Ford City Heritage Days. She owned a trailer court in Pattonville where she did alot of carpentry work. Betty loved roller skating, sewing, and collecting Indian statues, and had a real love for children. She also volunteered with AA meetings and at the Armstrong County Jail.  She is survived by her daughter, Charlene (John) Crissman of Ford City; her grandson, Travis Madey; her granddaughter, Lissya Crissman; a sister, Kitty Kibourn of Vermont; a a brother, Joseph Cornell of New Jersey; and her foster daughter, Helen Dongilli of West Kittanning.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles 'Pee Wee" Thevenin; a sister, Lillian Francis; and a nephew, Jeffrey Thevenin. Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday, in the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, in Christ, Prince of Peace Church, Ford City, with Father Alan Grote as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Cousin Charlene,
Your mother was a wonderful aunt and friend. I can truly say she was one of my favorites. I can remember many cookouts and good times with your family. Know that your Mom is in a better place. Prayers and condolences to you and your family.
