Albert Lee Simon, 64, of Ford City, Pa., died peacefully at home on April 11, 2023, following a short illness.
A retired computer draftsman, he was a native of Blawnox, Pa. He was born July 2, 1958, the son of Lee and Ellen Yerkins Simon. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. A grandson of the late Trifily Kolosov (Simon) and Julia Federoff Kolosovna, he was especially proud of his Russian heritage.
A lifelong avid sports fan, he coached and played baseball and softball in Blawnox and throughout the Allegheny Valley. He was also an expert in the field of fine cigars and had a love of history, reading, music and movies. He was a longtime fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints.
He was a graduate of Fox Chapel Area High School, Triangle Institute of Technology and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In his successful career as a computer draftsman, he specialized in designing marine piping systems for employers at locations around the United States, including Newport News, Va.; San Diego, Calif.; and Marinette, Wis.
He is survived by his sister, Suellen Retzer and her husband, Bill, of Ford City, Pa.; his nephews Brandon Simon and Bill and Brett Retzer; and several cousins. He leaves behind his beloved dog, Nika, and many friends.
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, at Welch Funeral Service, LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. A private blessing service will be held on Tuesday, with burial following in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Cheswick.
