Carol A. Stivason Obituary

Carol A. Stivason, age 78, of Ford City, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 8, 2024, while in the company of loved ones and Lutheran Senior Life VNA Home Hospice.

Carol was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, on October 1, 1946.  She was the daughter of the late Frank E. and Helen M. (Carothers) Funkhouser. Carol and her family were active members of St Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Carol attended Butler High School. While in school she enjoyed spending time with her friends, participating in various clubs, and playing the violin.  Following her graduation in 1964, Carol worked at the Bobbie Brooks Clothing Factory where a coworker introduced her to her future husband, George R. Stivason.

Carol and George married on September 14, 1968.  They made their home in Ford City and had two children: Lori and Sheri.  Carol loved spending time with her children and made sure that she was involved in various school and extracurricular activities throughout their youth.

Carol’s personality brought a lot of warmth and joy to those around her.  It was not uncommon for her to be out and about in the community and stop multiple times to engage in conversations with those around her.  Carol had such a warm personality and generally loved just interacting with others.

Carol worked at Thrift Drug (Eckerd Drug) in Kittanning for many years before later transferring to their mail order pharmacy in RIDC Park.  After retiring, she worked part-time as a greeter at Walmart.  She enjoyed greeting the customers who came into the store and took great pride in dressing up in holiday themed apparel for the kids and customers during the holiday seasons.

For 28 years, Carol and George made their second home in Presque Isle, Erie.  They loved camping at the lake.  They were blessed to meet so many new friends and neighbors. They spent some of the most amazing moments of their adult lives there surrounded by friends who later became family.

Carol is survived by two daughters, Lori Stivason of Ford City, and Sheri (Michael) Cupka of Kittanning, her grandchildren: Samantha Fair, Rebecca Fair, Austin Cupka, Ashlyn Cupka; a great granddaughter, Isabella Berry; several nieces and nephews; Deanna Cupka, and Vanessa Paumen, and her daughter Evelina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Stivason, brother, James E. Funkhouser, brother-in-law, Jackson L. Walker, sister-in-law, Shirley M. (Stivason) Walker, and nephew, Bruce L. Walker
