Daryl E. Shay, 66, of Worthington, died Monday, September 18, 2017, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.
Born May 30, 1951, in Kittanning he was a son of the late William and Helen (Bond) Shay.
Daryl worked as a coal miner for 40 years for several coal mines, retiring from Consol. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, target shooting, and playing with his dogs. He was a little league coach for 14 years, having coached North Buffalo, South Buffalo, and Freeport leagues. One year, his team won the PA Highfield Tournament.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne (Swartz) Shay; two sons, Cody Shay of Midland, and Dr. Cory Shay of Homer City; his grandchildren, Robyn Green, Kurtis Shay, Donald Shay Jr., and Sam and Steven Repak; his great-grandchildren, Logan, Wyatt, and Olivia Green; his mother-in-law, Christine Swartz; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Shay; and two brothers, Paul and Harold Shay.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donald L. Shay; a granddaughter, Karissa Thompson; and two brothers, Clair and William Shay.
Viewing will be held privately. Family and friends are welcome to attend his funeral service at 3 p.m., Thursday, in the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Interment will follow in Slate Lick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Orphans of the Storm, 11878 State Route 85, Kittanning, PA 16201.
