Delton R. Ion, 85, of Ford Cliff, died Saturday, November 20, 2021, in ACMH Hospital.
He was born June 19, 1936, in Cadogan, to the late George and Ida (Dolby) Ion.
Delton was a member of the Church of God, Ford City. He retired as a fireman from the Butler VA Medical Center, and also retired from the PA National Guard. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea.
He was a life member of the Ford Cliff Fire Dept., and was a member of the American Legion of Schenley. His hobbies included watching television, and playing baseball, softball, and golf. Delton was an umpire for youth baseball for 45 years.
Surviving are his sons: Delton (Melinda) Ion of Ford City, James (Sally Stevens) Ion of Ford Cliff, Christopher (Pamela) Ion of Hagerstown, MD, and Thomas (Diana) Ion of Leechburg; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one half sister, Teresa Byrd of Silver City, NM.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Ion, who died June 24, 2008; one son, Terry Ion; three sisters, Maebelle Hartman,Thelma Petras, and Goldie Cousins; and six brothers, Roy, John, Willford, George, Robert, and Dean Ion.
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at Welch Funeral Service LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2021, with Reverend Allen Ion officiating.
