Dorothy V. Gray Salsgiver Bernot, 95, of Ford City, died Sunday, March 6, 2022, in the comfort of her home.
Born February 5, 1927, in Vandergrift, she was a daughter of the late William McCowan and Helen Lyndale (Hoffman) Beighley. She was the last survivor of all her siblings.
She was a graduate of Vandergrift High School and the Allegheny Valley Hospital School of Nursing. Her career in nursing spanned over 46 years, having worked at the Armsdale Nursing Home, Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, Butler Memorial Hospital, and Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Dorothy was a member of Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was also part of the “Garnet Goodtime Girls” of the Red Hat Society. She loved writing poetry, playing the organ, baking, cooking, and spending time at family gatherings.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William Gray, Fred Salsgiver, and Albert Bernot; a son, William Bernot; brothers, James John, Clair and William Beighley; and a sister, Helen Calhoun.
She is survived by her children: Cindy Gray (Matt), Linda Gauker (Dewey), Bonnie Morales (Steven), Ron Gray (Michelle); Fred’s children: Randy, Mike, Susan and Joy; a daughter-in-law, Darla; 9 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be welcomed from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, at Welch Funeral Service, LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Walkchalk Salem Baptist Church, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
