George R. Stivason, 80, of Ford City, died Monday, February 27, 2023, at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.
Born September 14, 1942, in Kittanning, he was a son of the late William George and Helen M. (Waltenbaugh) Stivason.
He was a 1961 graduate of Ford City High School, and formerly attended Appleby Manor United Presbyterian Church.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, George proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 4843, Ford City.
George retired from Eckerd Drug in RIDC Park, where he was employed in the warehouse. Later, he was a school bus driver for A.J. Myers and Sons.
For 28 years, he and his wife, Carol, enjoyed camping in Erie, and loved spending time with their friends there. He was very fond of sports, both professional and local, and was well-known for sharing a joke or story with people. George loved his dogs, especially Trevor and Winston, who have both gone before him.
He is survived by his wife, Carol A. (Funkhouser) Stivason; two daughters, Lori Stivason of Ford City, and Sheri (Michael) Cupka of Kittanning; his grandchildren: Samantha Fair, Rebecca Fair, Austin Cupka, Ashlyn Cupka; a great-granddaughter, Isabella Berry; a sister, Shirley (Jack) Walker of Apollo; several nieces and nephews; and an exchange student, Vanessa Paumen, and her daughter, Evelina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two infant brothers, and a brother-in-law, James E. Funkhouser.
