Juanita Carr, 95, of Ford City, passed away Monday, October 20, 2025, at her daughter's home in Emlenton.
She was born May 22, 1930, in Ford City, a daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Bennett) Tolliver.
Mrs. Carr was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Ford City, where she was the organist for over 70 years. She was also a trustee, member of the finance committee, a fundraiser, and former youth choir director of her church. She sang with "The Four Roses" and the "Spiritual Answers" ladies gospel quartet.
She was also a member of the Eastern Star, the Socialites, the Social Progressive Sewing Club, the NAACP, and the Star Lighters Club. She formerly worked at Big River Manufacturing and Food Share. She was known as one of the "Hat Ladies" and was called "granny" and "granny grapes" by her family. Juanita was known for being very prompt and had a cornbread recipe that everyone wanted. She was very faithful visiting the sick and helping anyone who needed assistance. She also loved to dance, especially "the kick".
She is survived by her children: James “Skip” (Glenna) Heffner of Freeport, Kathryn Heffner (Duane Troutman) of Emlenton, Stanley (Velma) Heffner of Kittanning, and Melvin (Arlena) Heffner of Ford City; 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren; and siblings: June Reyes of Chicago, Dorothy J. Witcher of Saxonburg, Homer Allensworth, Jr. of Ford City, and sister, Patricia Stevenson of Lower Burrell.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Homer Allensworth; her first husband, James Heffner; her second husband, Leroy Carr; two sons, Stephen Heffner and Keith Darrell Heffner; two brothers, Frank Tolliver, Sr. and John Allensworth; and a sister, Delores Bell and a grandson Todd Heffner,
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday and Friday, at Welch Funeral Service, LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Second Baptist Church of Ford City, with Rev. Kent Commodore officiating.
