Kay Frances Shedwick Obituary

Kay Frances (Shotts) Shedwick, formerly of Port Street, Manor Township, died Saturday, August 31, 2024, at St. Barnabas Arbors, Valencia.

Kay was born December 26, 1938, in Jeannette, PA, where she grew up, graduating second in her class from Jeannette High School. She studied at Indiana State Teachers College, where she met her future husband, Larry Shedwick. She finished her bachelors degree in chemistry at Seton Hill College and married Larry in 1961.

In 1964, they moved to Ford City, where they raised their family.

She taught chemistry, physics, and math at several schools in the Armstrong School District. She also earned a masters degree in safety science from IUP.

A converted Catholic, she was active as a eucharistic minister and sang in the choir at Holy Trinity Parish. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren, her adventures with her husband, traveling to all 50 states, and collecting World War II Homefront memorabilia. She also sang with the Ford City Heritage Choir, won numerous ribbons at the Dayton Fair for her canned goods, and was a member of the Nellie Bly Society. In 2011, Kay and Larry were inducted into the Ford City Hall of Fame. Kay was always very crafty, and enjoyed sewing and painting.  She was also an avid bingo player.  Christmas was her favorite time of year.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Carl Shotts; her husband, Larry Shedwick; her brother, Ron Shotts; and cousin, Jeff Shotts.

She is survived by her children: Lawrence Jr. (Drew) and Sandy Shedwick, Andrea and Don Maue, Ruth and Patrick Bryant; and grandchildren: Ted and Nora Shedwick, Owen and Tanner Maue, Maeve and Tess Bryant; and numerous nieces and nephews.
