Lawrence F. "Larry" Flowers, 88, of Cadogan, died Sunday, September 4, 2022, at The Ridge at Heritage Meadows, Ford City, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born March 23, 1934, in Newark, New Jersey.
Larry was raised by his grandmother in East Vandergrift, and graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1952. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served as an airplane mechanic from 1953 until 1957. Larry then met the love of his life, Irene Gordish. They were married on October 10, 1959. He worked at his family's sawmill, did construction work, and was then employed by Penn Allegheny Coal Company, from which he retired.
He is survived by two sons: Ronald (Diane) Flowers of Conneaut, Ohio, and Timothy (Marie) Flowers of Freeport; grandsons: John (Sybil) Flowers of Germany, Michael Flowers of Ford City, and Elliott Flowers of Cadogan; one granddaughter, Jayna (Greg) Nara of Ohio; his great-grandchildren, Brandon Flowers and Payton Flowers; two step-grandsons: Dr. Alex (Erin) Thompson of Nags Head, NC, and John Thompson, Jr., of Ford City; two step-great-grandchildren, Shayla Shaner and Jerry Shaner; and his godson, Christopher Dilick.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene H. (Gordish) Flowers, on July 26, 2000, and an infant daughter, Michelle Flowers, on March 1, 1971.
Viewing will be held for his immediate family, and a private blessing service will be held, with The Very Rev. Eric J. Dinga, V.F., officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery.
