Mary Ann Karabin Obituary

Mary Ann (Bartolovic) Karabin, 90, died Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Lorien Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkridge, Md., from complications of a recent stroke.

She was born January 23, 1935, to the late Michael and Frances R. (Yarnevich) Bartolovic.

Ford City was the place she called home for eight decades, until she moved to Baltimore, MD in 2018.   She was a lifelong community member, a retired worker at Big River garment factory, and active member/former bar manager of the Slovak C.U. Club.  During the summers, she enjoyed the outdoor patio and the serenity of living on the creek, watching the wildlife, while listening to a variety of music - country, 50’s and especially polka /Croation music that played faithfully every Sunday. She took great pride in maintaining a well-manicured lawn at home and looked forward to planting her many flower gardens/baskets each summer.  Soap operas, the Hallmark channel, cooking and stoking the fireplace kept her days busy during the winter months.  Back in the day, she was a good bowler, active in several leagues and enjoyed traveling to tournaments. Playing the lottery numbers and canning tomatoes from her garden were other favorite pastimes. She loved to laugh and was known for her sense of humor and had a great memory for numbers and dates.  While in Baltimore she enjoyed getting to know her son-in-law’s family at gatherings, while bingo, karaoke, and Sunday Mass in the chapel kept her busy at the nursing home.

She is survived by her sister Barbara (Richard) Allen; her daughter Marcy (David) Post, of Baltimore, Md.; stepsons, Michael Richard (Marlene) Karabin, of Ford City, and Vincent John Karabin, of Manorville; stepdaughter, Alice (Chris) Yanoff, of Manorville; grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Julius and Jonathan Karabin, of Ford City, Michelle (Clarke) Helm and Natalie Yanoff of Manorville, David (Ashleigh) Post of Warwick, R.I., Jocelyn Loverling of Baltimore, Md., and two great-grandchildren, Carter and Piper Post, also of Warwick, R.I.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Karabin, and her brother, Daniel Bartolovic, of Anacortes, Wash.
