Paul J. "Sonny" Surovic

Paul J. “Sonny” Surovic, 92, of Ford City, died Tuesday, November 11, 2025, in the Butler VA Medical Center.

Born June 9, 1933, in Mt. Pleasant, NY, he was a son of the late Paul and Mary (Husar) Surovic.

Sonny dutifully served our country for 21 years, first for four years in the Navy, then 17 years in the Air Force, in which he was an airplane technician.  He served two tours in Vietnam.  Not one to sit still, after retirement from the military, he went on to work numerous jobs in the U.S. as well as in England.

While stationed in England, he met Joan, his wife of 44 years until the time of her passing in 2004.

Sonny’s favorite things to do included building model airplanes, flying remote control airplanes, collecting die cast cards, woodworking, and playing Solitaire.

He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and the C.U. Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Conner, and his brother-in-law, Jim Conner.

Sonny is survived by his niece, Michelle Conner of Saxonburg, his nephew, Jim Conner of Ford City, great nieces and nephews: Matt, Hunter, Morgan, Jason, Mandy and Kaylie, as well as numerous great-greats.

Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Welch Funeral Service, LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday.  Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.  To share memories or condolences, please visit www.welchfh.com.
