Pauline McCutcheon Obituary

Pauline Cozbi (Dennison) McCutcheon was born June 10, 1933, in Weston, WV, the daughter of Herbert Curry and Virginia Louise (Strader) Dennison.

Pauline was a 1951 graduate of Jane Lew High School, Lewis Co., WV.  In June 1951, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps, serving until 1953.  She was stationed at: Fort Lee, VA; Fort Jay, NY; Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, IN; and Fort Dix, NJ.  She was a stenographer and left the Army as a Private First Class.

While at Fort Dix, Pauline met Edwin John McCutcheon who she would marry on November 5, 1952, at Cunningham’s, Indiana, PA.

Pauline previously attended Homewood Baptist church in Logansport.  She was a former employee of Schenley Distillery, Schenley, PA and Canal Nursery, Shelocta, PA.

Pauline was a natural nurturer caring for and supporting her four children with all their interests and hobbies from childhood through adulthood.  She was a chauffeur, a chaperone, a volunteer, a caregiver, a cook, a cheerleader – a supporter in every way.  Pauline also served as a neighborhood babysitter, caring for local family’s children as if they were her own.

Pauline served as an Armstrong County 4-H Leader for 30 years, first as the organizational leader for the Bethel Ag 4-H Club and then as a Cake Decorating Leader for Plum Creek Ag 4-H.  Through the years she has assisted countless youth achieve their goals, find their talents, and grow as individuals.

In addition to her volunteering and family activities, Pauline was a member of the Buchannan (former Weston) Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary #4357.  She was a past member of the Hacker’s Creek Pioneer Descendants, Horner, WVA.  She enjoyed crocheting and decorating cakes, having made countless wedding and special event cakes for friends and family over the years.  Pauline was also a crack shot, hunting the PA woodlands alongside her husband and children.

In the early 90’s, Pauline started researching her family history, helping to restart the Dennison Family Reunion in Weston, WVA in 1994.  Her genealogical research started in West Virginia and extended into Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Idaho, and Ohio.  While she lived most of her life in Pennsylvania, she was always a West Virginian at heart.

Pauline was preceded in death by: her parents Herbert Curry and Virginia Louise (Strader) Dennison; siblings Charles Dennison, Mildred Virginia Dennison, Harold Eugene Dennison, Robert Lee Dennison, Donald Dennison, Helen Regina Dennison, and Cloe Dennison; and sister-in-law Alberta (Wright) Dennison.
