Sally Ann (Haney) Swank, 87, of Kittanning Township, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022, at ACMH Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Sally was born at home in Ford City to a large family on December 19, 1934, and was a 1952 graduate of Ford City High School.
She was a daughter of the late John and Beulah (Toy) Haney. She married Ray Swank on September 20, 1958, in an intimate ceremony at Heilman Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Ford City.
In her early years, Sally worked as a waitress at the G.C. Murphy snack bar, and as a telephone operator. She then worked as a waitress at Reefer’s Restaurant in Shelocta. Sally moved on to employment as a bank teller, until her retirement in 1996.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Manorville, and served on their funeral committee. She was also a previous church council member and Bible school assistant.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Ray, in their motor home and going to car shows in their classic Corvette. Sally also enjoyed reading autobiographies, playing 500 bid with friends, and playing dominos with her family.
She was blessed to see the arrival of her first great-grandson, Ilias V. Kunkle, in March of 2021. She kissed his picture every night and checked in every day to see what new skill he accomplished.
Sally is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ray; her daughter, Beth Tsiris and son-in-law, Ilias, of Slippery Rock; her daughter, Stacy Hartman of Adrian; grandson, Athanasios Tsiris and his wife, Bryanna, of Seattle, WA; granddaughter, Dr. Sophia Tsiris Kunkle and her husband, Mike, of Poland, OH; granddaughter, Aspen Hartman and her partner, Stefan Simon, of Sunset Beach, NC; her sister, Marilyn Shaffer of Texas; and the apple of Sally’s eye, her great-grandson, Ilias V. Kunkle of Poland, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Ray; her half-brother, Bill Haney; brothers, John “Bud” Haney, Wendell Haney, and Bernard Haney; and sisters, Aletha Jean Haney, Evelyn Luchesa, Edith Stitt, and Bernice Arble.
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m., on Thursday, at Welch Funeral Service LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City.
