Suzanne M. (Myers) Bruce, 89, of Burrell Township, died Tuesday, December 26, 2023, in UPMC Williamsport.
Born October 25, 1934, in Burrell Township, she was a daughter of the late Frantz Verner and Alma Georgia (Riggle) Myers.
She was a 1952 graduate of Ford City High School. Sue graduated from Grove City College in 1956, with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She went on to Penn State University, earning a master’s degree in secondary education in 1961. Sue’s career in education began at Freeport High School in 1956-1957. For several years, she taught at Ford City High School. From 1965 to 1998, she worked at Lenape Vo-Tech, where she also taught adult education in the evenings. In addition, she also taught classes at Butler County Community College. After retirement, she served as a substitute teacher in the State College area.
Sue was a resident of Burrell Township and State College, PA.
She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was inducted into the Ford City Area Hall of Fame in 1994. Though she never attended Thiel College, she was elected as the president of the Thiel College Women’s Club. She was selected by the Pennsylvania Joint Council for Economic Education, as of the outstanding educators in the state.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Edgar Perrin Bruce, whom she married on April 8, 1995, in Houston, TX; a niece, Tammy Tonic; and a nephew, Thomas Toncic.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Toncic.
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, at Welch Funeral Service, LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Brick Church, with Rev. Barbara Love officiating.
