Thomas C. Burk, a loving father, grandfather and friend to many, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born in 1944 and raised in Sinnamahoning, PA, Tom was the son of the late George Craig and Ora (Dunkle) Burk. His childhood years were filled with adventures in the mountains around his hometown but, desiring more, he ventured out into the world to discover his true passions.
His professional journey began in telephone repair and evolved into a career marked by high-level management and entrepreneurial success. Tom held executive leadership roles at Alltel, Adelphia, Central Locating Services, and the Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union (PSECU). He transitioned to business ownership as the proprietor of Armstrong Lock and Security, providing innovative in-school armed security programs in response to national safety concerns.
Beyond his career, Tom was deeply invested in his community. He was a dedicated, 60-year member of the Free Masons, NMJ Scottish Rite, and Syria Shrine. Additionally, he served on the Board of Directors for the Armstrong Associates Credit Union. His extensive civic involvement included leadership and membership roles within the Elks, Kittanning Men’s Club, Polish Falcons, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Slovak Catholic Union, Latin-American Beneficial Society, Ford City VFW, American Legion, and the Moose Lodge.
An avid outdoorsman, Tom found joy in breeding and training English Setters, riding horses, hunting, and touring on his Harley-Davidson. In his later years, he enjoyed many travel adventures with Marty and found contentment in the company of friends and the quiet beauty of watching birds at his feeders.
He is survived by three children: Patricia Burk of Pittsburgh, Kathleen (Patrick) Shull of Muncy, and Daniel (Jennifer Soisson) Burk of Ford City; his grandchildren: Benjamin Burke, Sara and Abigail Burk, and Catherine and John Shull; and his longtime companion, Martha Dunlap.
Friends will be welcomed on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with Masonic Funeral Rites conducted at 8 p.m., at Welch Funeral Service, LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City, PA.
