William Edward Cagle, 76, of Rural Valley, died peacefully Tuesday, March 26, 2024 in St. Andrew’s Nursing Home, Indiana, PA.
He was born April 3, 1947, to William J. Sr., and Wilma P. (Shaul) Cagle.
Known by many as Bill, Billy, Wild Bill, and Keg, he graduated from Ford City High School in 1965. He attended surveying school in Pittsburgh and worked at RB Shannon and GAI in Kittanning before venturing out on his own to establish William E. Cagle Surveying in 1984. Bill worked in most Western PA counties in both private and public sectors. He had a knack for finding any iron pin, usually by tripping on it. His business spanned over 3 ½ decades and the friendships he made along the way will last a lifetime.
He was a former member of Ford City Hose Co. #1, then joined Rayburn Twp. Volunteer Fire Department upon his move out to Spaces Corners with his family. He was also a member of the Kittanning Elks and an honorary member of the Penfield Firemen's Club. Penfield, PA held a special place in his heart as he and his brother Gary owned a camp affectionally known as “Cagle’s Condo”. Bill loved golfing, ‘safety meetings’ with his friends, and for some reason thought Vacation Time Shares were a good investment. He was always more than willing to share his vacation photos to anyone unlucky enough to be cornered by him.
Surviving are his wife, Linda (Yeager) Cagle, two sons, Christopher (Krista) Cagle of Prospect, PA and Ryan (Angela) Cagle of Baldwin, MD one daughter, Lauren (Jarod) Wheeler of Dayton and grandchildren, Elise, Alex, Samuel, Luca, and Dominic Cagle and Blake & Grady Wheeler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Gary L. Cagle, and twin brother, Joseph Cagle.
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday, and from 10 a.m.-12 Noon, Tuesday, at Welch Funeral Service, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Services will be private. Interment in Lawn Haven Burial Estates. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.welchfh.com.
