William K. “Opie” O’Brien, 76, of Cadogan, died Saturday, April 12, 2025, in his home.
Born November 27, 1948, in Kittanning, he was a son of the late John and Jean (Birch) O’Brien.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by R&P Coal as miner and welder.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Church in Cadogan. Opie was a social member of the Coolspring Power Museum. He enjoyed classic cars, steam engines, riverboats, welding fabricating, working in his workshop, and going to swap meets and flea markets.
Opie is survived by his wife, Patricia (Rosenberger) O’Brien; his sons, Bill O’Brien, Jr., of Cadogan, and Kevin (Amy) O’Brien of Emerald Isle, NC; and his grandchildren, Keeley and Kerrington O’Brien.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack O’Brien, and a sister, Penny O’Brien.
Friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at Welch Funeral Service, LLC, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Services will be private, and interment will take place in St. Francis Cemetery. To share memories or condolences, please visit www.welchfh.com.
