Frederick Louis Walbert III, 50, of King, NC (formerly of Ford City and Kittanning), passed away March 17, 2018, at his home.

He was born October 14, 1967, in ACMH Hospital, a son of Fred L. and Joanne A. (Gladysiewski) Walbert, Jr.

He was a 1985 graduate of Ford City High School, having played baseball and basketball all through high school. He also played baseball through college at Penn State New Kensington. Fred lived in the Ford City and Kittanning area for many years before moving to King, NC. He worked as a tool and die engineer for Precision Concept for 24 1/2 years, and was a member of St. Leo the Great Church in Winston-Salem, NC. Even after moving to North Carolina, Fred remained an avid fan of the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.

His memory will be cherished by his parents, Fred and Joanne; brother, Curtis (Debra) Walbert; and sister, Nicole (Jason) Fox. He is also survived by four nieces, Ashley, Ava, Addison, and Aubrey; one nephew, Cooper; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family and friends in King, NC.

Fred was preceded in death by his grandparents, Adolph D. and Sophie Gladysiewski and Fred L. and Rose Walbert, Sr.

Friends and family will be received from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, in the Welch Funeral Home, 1032 Fourth Ave., Ford City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, at Christ, Prince of Peace Church, Ford City, with Father Alan Grote as celebrant. Everyone is asked to meet at the church on Monday.

Dear Fred, Joanne, and family, We would like to send our heartfelt condolences in the loss of your son Fred. Although we did not have the pleasure of knowing Fred, we are sure he was a fine young man who will be greatly missed by you, your family, and his many friends. It is always difficult when you lose a family member, but it is even more difficult and heart wrenching when it is your child. We hope that all of the fond memories you have of your son Fred will sustain you now and in the future. May God love him and you. Sincerely, John and Jane Shaner

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Walbert,
Nothing was better than turning a double play with your son. He was a great teammate and player, and more importantly, a great person. May God's love find you and your family peace.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Walbert and family,
I had the honor and privilege to coach Fred on the junior varsity basketball team at Ford City. He was ALWAYS ready to play and do whatever was possible to help us achieve our goals. He was ALWAYS very respectful to me and the other players. With Fred at the point guard position, we were never in trouble. He saved a lot of timeouts with his knowledge and keen insight on the floor. One of the best I ever coached. I feel very sad for you, the family and his many close friends. I’m sure it is very hard right now, but try to focus on the 50 years that Fred was with us. You have my complete sympathy and will say a prayer for all of you tonight. May God bless Fred. . .
